Introducing the SHOWREEL Audience Award
This month we’ll be screening a selection of low-budget shorts by local filmmakers ….the audience will get a chance to vote on their favourites and hear from some of the directors too.

A brilliant short by Carol Morley, director of the recent smash-hit, Dreams of a Life. Based on the filmmaker’s collection of British newspaper cuttings, Everyday Something features interlocking private moments that give strange glimpses into everyday life - including a woman who can’t stop jogging, and a man obsessed with Claudia Schiffer - amongst others. Featuring the voice of John Peel.

A geriatric mother and her 20-something son on a road trip to meet some dastardly drug dealers.

SHOWREEL, Weds 13 March

the next edition of SHOWREEL is on Weds 13 March at its usual location on the top floor of the Balham Bowls Club. The screening starts at 8.30 pm, doors open 8pm. Tickets are £3, with all proceeds to the Waterloo Foodbank.
The line-up is still being finalised but is something like this:
Richard Documentary 5 Mins Dir. Matt Hopkins
The story of a travelling piano tuner who chooses to live outdoors. Shot in London, the film takes an alternative look at someone who treats the entire city as a home.
Lie Detector Comedy 4 Mins Dir. Paul Emerson
Dane only has one chance to make a stellar first impression. Good thing there’s a lie detector present at his job interview!
Domestic Comedy 8 Mins Dir. Brett Snelgrove
It’s crouching lover, hidden agenda when a couple puts their relationship and martial-arts skills to the test.

A short comedy about jealousy, made in 48 hours.
 
The Apology Line Documentary 10 Mins Dir. James Lees
Based around the creation of a real-life ‘apology line’ where members of the public can anonymously confess to absolutely anything, over the telephone.
 
In Trees Horror 15 Mins Dir. C. Wassaff
A father tells his children a scary tale about spirits in trees that feed on humans at night. Upon arrival at a mysterious location, he leaves the children alone in the truck, where their fears manifest.

Stage & Screen Monthly Workshops

A recommendation for anyone interesting in scriptwriting for stage or screen: the writers’ group Chalk the Sun (chalkthesun.co.uk) is starting a series of monthly workshops at the Balham Bowls Club from Saturday 13 October. Some great tutors lined up.
